Finding our way home

It’s crazy how when you focus your attention on something, suddenly it seems to be present everywhere you look. Sometimes I’m really over-the-moon happy, and I start to notice similar happiness everywhere around me – I see friends laughing together, couples sharing a special moment together, dogs running around and kids playing carelessly. It’s uplifting and adds to the positivity of what I’m experiencing.

There’s other times when happiness isn’t quite as prevalent. When I’m in a dark place in my own life, it becomes harder to notice the beauty that surrounds me. In these times, I’m more tuned into the negativity… it seems like every news article I see on my feed, every channel I turn to, every comment I hear pass me by is filled with sadness and hate. Suddenly it seems like there is bad news around every corner, and it can become totally overwhelming.

The truth is, we all experience highs and lows. That’s what being alive is meant to be. If we didn’t tune in to the different vibrations and let ourselves experience the pure ecstasy of happiness and the complete devastation of the tough times, we wouldn’t get the full show. We’d be half-assing it. Nothing good comes without struggle.

At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to find our way home. We all know what it’s like to have our heart broken, what it feels like to be rejected, how hurtful other people can be and how much of an effect they have on us. All that we can do is offer compassion to each other as we circle around on our journeys, and bring our attention back to love. That’s what it’s really all about.

So ask yourself, where can you offer more compassion? Where can you soften, and where can you give more of yourself to another? How can you shine your own light for someone to help guide them, to make it a little bit easier to find their way home?

Because after all, we’re all in this together.
